Since the start of 2021 we have done so much already!

On 11 February we held our Valentine’s day Quiz.

It was a lot of fun and we raised R2 087.20 for Doorway to Dignity’s Frozen Meals project (more on this project a little later!)

On 6 March Amanda and Susan joined Edenvale Ladies Circle for their Zumbathon fundraiser for their Vice President fundraiser. Nolene, our Chairlady also joined in spirit.

On 13 March we met for our frozen meals project for Doorway to Dignity at Mel’s house (who wasn’t even a member yet at that stage, thanks Mel!) and cooked up a storm. We each made a different soup and between the 5 of us there we made 51 soups to be frozen as meals for those that don’t have. We are  going to be doing another round of frozen meals cooking in June.

On 18 March we inducted our newest member, Melanie Green, who had in a very short space of time, proven what an exceptional member she would be. We had met Melanie at a project for Doorway to dignity the previous year and she made contact with us to join our circle.

On 27 March we went and did our car boot sale at the Midrand car boot sale market that is held every Saturday, this is the second one we have done. We managed to raise R1 120 by selling our old stuff, isn’t that just incredible! We will use these funds for our general fund and for upcoming causes in the next few months and still have lots of items to sell in the future.

On 1 April we delivered three boxes of food to Charity Begins with me.

On 3 April we delivered 98 NEW Afrikaans books to the Abraham Kriel Children’s home in Randburg.

On 10 April we had a social with Peta-Lyn of Edenvale Ladies Circle, where we had a lesson in fondant making for our future cupcake baking. We have committed ourselves to making 20 cupcakes each for Charity Begins with me by 29 May for their fundraiser.

On 25 April we had our 2nd AGM and had a delightful Afternoon Tea.

Our new office holders that were elected are:

Susan de Kock – Chairlady

Nolene van der Coolwijk – Immediate Past Chairlady and Social Convener

Amanda Yelland – Vice Chairlady

Melanie Green – Treasurer

Nicola Ferreira – Public Relations Officer

We also voted and made Linda Reddy a Honorary Member of Sandton Ladies Circle!

Melanie and Susan did swabs to become blood stem cell transplant donors. Melanie did hers in March and Susan did hers in April and they will hopefully both be added to the DKMS blood donors database soon. Our other ladies will do their swabs soon. You can find out more information here: www.dkms-africa.org

Some of our members also have news! Linda Reddy is going to be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in July for Mandela day and is raising funds for Caring4Girls who tackle the plight of impoverished girls who often miss school during their menstrual cycles due to lack of sanitary pads, you can support her fundraiser here: https://www.givengain.com/ap/linda-reddy-raising-funds-for-imbumba-foundation/#timeline

Our Immediate Past Chairlady Nolene van der Coolwijk got married on 19 April. Nolene will be having a baby soon and decided to take a step back from the official duties as Chairlady because of this exciting development, however as our Founding Chairlady of Sandton Ladies Circle 24, Nolene will always be our Chairlady! We all cannot wait to be aunties to a beautiful baby girl who will join as our youngest member!

Phew, what a whirlwind the last few months have been, one would never say we are in a pandemic! Hopefully the Covid numbers will remain low and we can carry on with our face to face meetings and start doing face to face fundraisers.

Next stop … the LCSA AGM from 21 – 23 May. We cannot wait!
