Garden Route Circle in Formation: Winter Stock Pile Project

GRLC Winter stock pile 13 300x231 Garden Route Circle in Formation: Winter Stock Pile Project

Garden Route Ladies Circle held our first project on the 13th of August 2011.

Our Mission was to collect as much non-perishable food items and second hand clothing as possible.

The project was held in front of Pick and Pay at the Pre-Cap Centre. Even though it was a bbbrrrrrr cold morning the public supported us with only a little bit of encouragement.

Pick and Pay kept our limbs moving by providing us with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. The next door Pizza shop, Bella Napoli followed suite and gave us pizza and coffee which was much appreciated.

A whole trolley full of tins and a few more trolleys full of rice, maize meal, soup and other goods were donated. A bakkie load (25 black bags) of second hand clothes were also donated by the public.

All the donated goods (food and clothing) were handed over to the ACVV on 17 August 2011. The ladies of the ACVV were bowled over by the amazing support for the project. A couple of days later we received a letter of thanks from the ACVV mentioning that it was the biggest donation they received this year so far.

Ladies working together is an amazing thing!

Louis Trichardt Ladies Circle No. 4: Information Day

Information Day 1024x682 Louis Trichardt Ladies Circle No. 4: Information Day

What a great way to celebrate Women’s Day, 9th of August ‘11, by hosting an Information Day and inviting all the ladies of our town. We were able to explain to those who attended what Ladies Circle is all about and what wonderful things we do for those in need, while having fun.

We also let the community to vote for a Business Woman they thought, has helped the community through the work she does and also by the way she gives back to the community for the year 2011. A floating trophy was handed over to Michele van der Merwe, a local Beautician. Afterwards we enjoyed a light snacks and had great fellowship with the ladies.

Garden Route Circle: Our first social with Shiraz Ladies Circle

GRLC Shiraz social 1 1024x768 Garden Route Circle: Our first social with Shiraz Ladies Circle

On the 9th of July 2011 Garden Route Ladies met up with the Shiraz Ladies at the local Knysna Oyster Festival. Through common objectives and friendship it felt as if we’ve known each other for years, and needless to say there was no stopping the excitement in the air once our Circles ‘collided’. The energy, loyalty, vision and determination of the Shiraz Ladies were so contagious, and as a new Circle this experience and camaraderie was an absolute encouragement to the Garden Route Ladies.

Save for all the copious amounts of seafood consumed during the gathering, some were a bit more adventurous and tried the Oyster-Vodka-Tabasco shots. Although this sounds as gross as it looked, the ladies who tried it will agree… It was actually not that bad.

We would like to thank the Shiraz Ladies for taking the time to meet up with us, and hope that this will become, at least, an annual event.

President’s News: Letter from Sonel

My Dear Fellow Circlers & Guests

As Ladies Circle South Africa President, My Goals for the Ladies Circle Year 2011/12 is to:
1. Adopt the usage of more detailed & frequent Communication.
2. Enliven the feeling of “Together, even though apart”.
3. Promote LCSA to expand our organization.
4. Involve ALL to build a stronger organization.
5. Have closer cooperation with AGORA, Round Table and 41’er Club – Side by Side.
6. Stop procrastinating and DO IT.
I know that each one of us, as Circlers, will make it our own and Circle together towards these goals.

Ladies Circle logo sonel 3 Presidents News: Letter from Sonel

My Motto and Logo for the year goes hand in hand.

It is a Collection of my 5 strongest strengths and each converted to an Image/Word:
Connectedness – Human Chain
Input – Connected
Belief – Heart
Harmony – Circle
Adaptability – Wave

The Human Chain symbolizes:
1. Each person as an individual with his/her own strengths.
We are all different. We need to embrace & except our differences.
2. Connectedness. It is the bond we have between ourselves, be it with Circlers, AGORAs, Tablers, 41’ers and with others. The connection makes us strong.

The word Connected symbolizes:
1. On an IT level the sticky stuff that holds the connection between us, to form an unbreakable chain. By staying in touch, we will build our organizations as well as our relationships with each other.
2. Input can only happen when there is participation from all by communication.

The Heart symbolizes:
1. Love. It is all we need! It is what motivates and empowers us. Because of Love, we are the people that we are and the reason why we do what we do. Without it we will become empty vessels.
2. Belief comes from the heart. It also brings trust, as we do not just give our hearts to anyone. With this, it brings certainty. This, in turn, brings love.

The Circle symbolizes:
1. Togetherness. We are all part of the bigger picture and need to take care of each other. If we take hands, look for consensus and support, we can achieve the impossible.
2. Harmony works in a circle, which brings us coherence.
This year’s Motto written in a wavy style symbolizes:
1. Change happens daily. We need to adapt with these changes and make it work for us.
2. Adaptability also has to be a wave of accepting that things are going to change and we must have flexibility to go with the chance.

And therefore our Motto for the year is “Connected with Love”.

To my fellow SA Circlers, I will see you soon!
To all other guests, enjoy the exploration of our website.
Please feel free to contact us.

Ermelo Ladies Circle: Winter Nights

Ever wondered what a group of ladies, in a small “platelandse dorpie”, do to entertain themselves?

253488 10150215699633328 558183327 6904863 7443681 n Ermelo Ladies Circle: Winter Nights

Well, apart for many different things, they decide to get together with a group of Round Tablers and see what they can come up with for entertainment! Wednesday evening, the 15th June, was just such an evening!

Having nothing better to do with their time or health, they decided to go bumming and hang around on a street corner!

Ermelo Round Table 97 in conjunction with Ladies Circle No. 15 got together in the parking lot of a local drinking hole, The Orange Frog to promote the annual Winter Knights!

The owners of the Orange Frog got a warm fuzzy feeling and decided to hire a local comedian (so that the patrons felt part of the circus outside) and charged an entrance fee of either warm clothes, a blanket or food!

Thanks to the assistance of the local community (some deep in their 60’s), a few boma’s, the members and various alcoholic beverages, the presence of the Ladies Circle IPP, Michelle Beart bearing a gift of 10 blankets, the Tablers and Circlers attempted to keep warm! We were even joined by a pair of genuine hobo’s! The shock was so great that the moon went into hiding!!

This was easy until about 4am, when the temperature dropped below freezing! Not even Obbies or Tequila could spread a warm feeling!

However, what did send a warm glow through a Circler or two, was the sight of the local Table Chairman, Heinrich, pushing a vacuum cleaner attached to a generator, through the parking lot!
We left the area cleaner than when we got there!

All in all, we think a good time was had by all…………….
And was it worth it? Judging by the amount of people we are able to warm up, yes, yes and yes again!!

Yours in Friendship
Elizma Brand

Northridge Ladies Circle: Charity Comedy Evening

IMG 5570 1024x768 Northridge Ladies Circle: Charity Comedy Evening

I was approached by a friend, Margarita, asking me to do a fundraiser for her colleague’s brother who was involved in a terrible car accident in August 2010. While having the conversation over dinner, I mentioned to her that I thought that because this guy has gone through so much trauma in the past couple of months, perhaps we should have a comedy evening in his honour.

Jonathan was involved in an accident but cannot recall what happened. He was sober and does not remember his car rolling four times (witnesses gave this account). He was in a coma for almost a month and he had a lot of internal bleeding as a result of him wearing a seatbelt (if he had not, he would be alive). However, he then had septicemia and as a result they had to cut his torso (which still remains partially open). He also broke his pelvis and arm. He recently underwent a hip replacement.

He is on a hospital plan but unfortunately, when he leaves the care of hospital and returns home, he will still have to undergo intensive rehabilitation – and this he does not have the funds for.
Never having hosted a comedy night before, I thought to myself how did I get myself into suggesting this! However, fate always plays a part in making things AMAZING.

The next week one of our Groupies, Mel, sent us an invite to a comedy night at Jet Nightclub. To summarise what happened next, we met with Darren Maule and Adrian (the owner of Jet) and I said “we want the club and comedians for free”. My best asset came into play, my big mouth. I then met with Bevan Cullinan (a.ka. Gary the Tooth Fairy) who contacted his friends and we had our dream line-up for the event – Darren Maule (MC), Bevan Cullinan, Malcolm Ferreira, Joey Rasdien and John Vlismas – all doing this for free. Adrian would give us the club for the night – free of charge. Thank you angels!

I met Jonathan, who is still in hospital and I said that we would do our best to raise as much money for him and others who would benefit from our Let’s Walk Fund (a fund we recently established in the aim and hope of getting people mobile!).

Now we needed to spread the word! We started with our database of supporters, set up a Facebook page, sent updates at least twice a week, placed the event on Jacaranda FM’s, Highveld 94.7’s and 5fm’s upcoming events pages. We e-mailed DJ’s at Highveld and 5fm asking to make an announcement about our fund raiser (at no cost of course). We were so excited when we heard that Alex Jay and DJ Fresh both read out details of the fund raiser. We also contacted WinkBall which reports back on various events who would be attending the night. Computicket were back on board helping us with ticket sales. A blogger contacted us and reported and advertised the event too – giving it more exposure.

We had some awesome sponsors on the night – SterKinekor, Disney, SterKinekor POPS, Miq Miles, JLT Interiors, Rhapsody’s, Sun International and Sausage Saloon (who donated a portion of their total hot dog sales). There was an auction, raffle and “donor box”.

The evening was an awesome fund raiser and a huge success. The feedback we received from those attending was resounding – an awesome night out having a laugh and raising funds for a worthy cause. In the end, over R40,000.00 profit was raised for the Let’s Walk Fund.

Yours in Circle,
Sofia Vourazeris

Louis Trichardt Ladies Circle: Highlights of 2011 so far …

LC4 hosts LCSA National Council
On February 12th LC4 hosted the third Ladies Circle South Africa National Council meeting for the Circle year. At the start of the meeting, in true past Circler spirit, AGORA Club South Africa’s President, Sandy van Niekerk and her Vice President, Pam Schoeman, came to raid our meeting. Even with all the fun and laughter in between, a very successful and productive meeting was held. After lunch, all departed with our guests to get ready for the evening’s social. We continued the fun and fellowship, all dressed up, supporting the Rotary Club of Louis Trichardt’s Valentine’s Dance, fundraising event.

LC4 & RT66 Side-by-Side
Like always, our two clubs take time to socialise and have fun together while supporting other events in our area. On February 18th it was time to dress up and head out to the streets. LC4 ladies got on our tights, attached our tails and wore hectically yellow wigs to fit in with the theme of the Leeuloop Fun walk! RT66 gents were half dressed in tuxs and boxers. The 5 kilometre walk was just enough for all of us, but it was great fun and we enjoy doing it for Charity! Of course it’s also a big bonus when you win the best dressed team award and the prize of Avocado’s and Alcohol!

CANSA Shavathon & Makhado Care Group
On March 4th it was time for the CANSA Shavathon and LC4 joined in the fun. A giggle and a laugh just makes looking ridiculous worth while! We made a donation towards CANSA’s cause and then we were taken in the new VW Amarok on a test drive. Don’t remember when last the ladies screamed and laughed so much all together!

In Louis Trichart, Makhado Care Group takes care of the local Cancer patients and LC4 can only show our support by donating funds, like we did on March 16th. Living in such a small town, we know what impact this group has made on our community and we are only too grateful for what they are doing for our friends that need their help.

Bowls Awareness Day
LC4 were approached to support the Bowls Awareness Day and because our passion is Charity, we pitched up in full force on April 27th. All funds raised went toward CANSA and the Blind Bowls Association. Now the debate is underway, should we take up only bowls or should we just carry on doing a little bit of everything even though not the best at any? Majority rules, a little bit of everything because all the fun we have while helping those in need, priceless!!

RT66 Clubhouse
On May 26th, LC4 were invited over to the revamped Clubhouse of RT66. The guys really put in a lot of hard work and the end result is just amazing. Well done to the lads.
André Müller, Chairman of RT66, said a few words on the Side-by-Side friendship for the year ahead and then pins were exchanged between himself and LC4 Chair, Hettie Botha. Gifts were handed over and a Friendship Candle gift was lit by Past Chairman, Dirk Meissenheimer. Then of course the social began till the early morning.
