Wheelchair Wednesday

What an amazing emotional and blessed morning spent on the 10th of October ’18 at the Association of People with Physical Disabilities’s Wheelchair Wednesday handover at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. It was a true honour to be able to attend this special occasion.

Eight hundred and eighteen. That’s the number of wheelchairs handed over to needy Nelson Mandela Bay residents in the last seven years through the Wheelchair Wednesday initiative of APD Nelson Mandela Bay. The aim is to motivate local business and community leaders to spend four hours in a wheelchair carrying out basic everyday tasks each Wednesday in August.

The initiative assists to increase awareness of the challenges mobility impaired people face in society and consequently lead to improvement in matters pertaining to it. It also assists with generating funds to purchase wheelchairs and to support the APD’s Work Centres for those with disabilities.

Thank you to Brian Bezuidenhout, Executive Director of APD NMB for giving us the opportunity to witness such an amazing goodwill event again, where 150 Wheelchairs were handed over to the much deserving recipients. Thank you to all attending, the hard work put in behind and in front of the scenes, the sponsors and congratulations to all the recipients. You are all a true inspiration!!  Visit http://apdnmb.org.za to find out how you can get involved.
