AGM 2019 Convener’s Final Word

What did we do?

The Ladies Circle South Africa AGM was held from 24th – 26th May 2019 and East London Ladies Circle was privileged to host the event.  After a full year of planning, it was finally time to welcome the LCSA National Board, fellow Circlers, some partners as well as the RTSA Vice-President and his wife to a jam-packed weekend.

The weekend started off with the National Board members and Susarah arriving on Thursday, 23rd May 2019 with a couple of pre AGM weekend drinks and a lovely meal and just general catch up.

It was finally D-day… The venue was set for our AGM, the registration table was ready and waiting for the Circlers to arrive so that we can get the show on the road.  The goodie bags, handmade by our Circlers, seems to have been a great treat for all attending.  The 27th AGM kicked off at 12h00 and after the opening of the meeting, the men were excused to go on their tour, while the ladies spoke business.  Once the AGM was finished, it was time for much needed relaxation and our themed social for the evening, a shipwreck party at the Gonubie Marine Club with a lovely fish & chips meal for supper.

Saturday morning started off a bit more chilled.  We had a very productive workshop lead by Peta-Lyn Foot followed by Natasha Lloyd and Yvette Cornelissen showing us the presentation which they’ve been using for their membership drives.  The afternoon activity was “Minute to Win It”.  This kicked off with East London’s famous Friesland milkshakes followed by all attendees being split into teams of 2.  Lots of laughs and great fun was had by all.  Lunch was served at Slipway Pub & Grub followed by some time off where we could all get ready for the President’s Banquet.

The venue was turned into a nautical themed haven with fairy lights, a beautiful photo corner and don’t forget the dance floor.  Judy Theunissen, our outgoing President for 2018-2019 delivered her address and then it was time for awards and trophies! A huge congratulation to all the award winners and Circle who won trophies!  A special word of congratulations to Chantess Wiggill who received Honorary Life Membership of our wonderful organisation.  Peta-Lyn Foot was inducted as the new LCSA President for 2019-2020 and during her incoming address she revealed her motto for the year as “Embrace Your Magic”.  The evening ended with dancing and some more dancing.

In closing, I’d like to thank all the East London Ladies Circle members as well as our partners for all your hard work over the last year in planning the AGM.  We loved every minute of hosting the weekend; it was great catching up with old friends and making new friends.

Yours in Circle
