PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 and Round Table Algoa 108 worked Side-by-Side this Mandela Day in support of Save-a-Pet, an animal rescue centre in Greenbushes PE that rehabilitates and re-homes abandoned, abused, lost and stray dogs and cats.

We asked the community, friends and family via social media, whatsapp and any other means possible, to assist us in collecting tins of pet food in aid of  the Save-a-Pet’s Mandela Day Drive, their goal being 6 700 tins.

On Sunday 18 July 2021, Circlers and Tablers came together, meeting outside the reception gate at Save-a-Pet, Greenbushes, Port Elizabeth to hand over a donation of 186 tins and some bags of pet food, as well as a couple of blankets.

Jackie O’Connor, Office Administrator at Save-a-Pet, took us all for a walk through the shelter’s kennels and introduced us to some of the current residents, the pretty pooches that our efforts were targeted towards.  This was a humbling experience.  There are just so many dogs and cats in need of forever homes.  And we couldn’t help but realize just how much character it takes to work at a facility such as this.  It is certainly not a 9 to 5 kind of job and takes patience and dedication.

Thank you to all our supporters, to everyone who donated pet food and blankets, to those of you who made monetary donations towards this project, to everyone who shared our posts, as well as to Rohlig-Grindrod, De Keg, Prickly Pear and Mastertons Mobile Coffee for acting as drop off points.  Your efforts are more than appreciated.
