USING COLOUR TO CREATE AWARENESS

PE Pearls has been painting social media a range of colours to create awareness for various initiatives over the past couple of months.

We started September off on a sweet note with cupcakes for breakfast in honour of our Cancer HEROES and to show support for International Cupcake for Breakfast Day on the 1st September 2021.

Our Circlers, Sonel and Chantal, took part in the Spar Women’s Virtual Challenge held on Saturday 4th September 2021 in recognition of the obstacles that women face.  This was followed by fellowship and brunch at Barn & Barrel, PE.

PE Pearls LC19 celebrated Hope this Heritage Month in support of Sunflower Day (17 September 2021) and implored all to register as stem cell donors.  Blood Stem Cell donor matches depend on tissue types, not blood types. These are inherited genetic characteristics and are often unique to a particular race group.  It is so sad that up to 1 000 South African children are diagnosed with cancer every year.  With September being Childhood Cancer Month too, we encourage everyone to be a hero and potentially save a child’s life.  DKMS Africa, formerly known as The Sunflower Fund, is an international charity dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders. Their mission is to provide a matching donor for every blood cancer patient in need.  Stem Cell donors save lives and the TOPE that you purchase helps support the fight against blood cancer.

September was also Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and in the spirit of Ladies Supporting Ladies, PE Pearls LC19 was Trendy in Teal every Thursday during the month to create awareness for Ovarian Cancer.  Did you know that there are over 30 types of Ovarian Cancer and nearly 250 000 women are diagnosed globally each year.

We all looked pretty in pink at our monthly business meeting on Tuesday 12 October 2021 in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness, which takes place during the month of October.  We also painted our Facebook page PINK and encouraged all Ladies to please check those b00bies regularly and go for annual check-ups; early detection saves lives.

I do believe it is moustache season sir…

PE Pearls LC19 held our November business meeting beautiful in Blue and with men on our mind, in aid of Movember creating awareness of men’s health issues (prostate cancer, testicular cancer, suicide) and #BecauseYouGuysMatter“Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.” Bill Richardson

Please guys go for regular check-ups…

The theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2021 was “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!” so PE Pearls LC19 painted our social media Orange on 25 November 2021 in support of this campaign; orange being the symbol of a more hopeful future for a society free of violence against women and girls.
